Angeline Kanagasooriam was born and bred in Singapore. Her music training began at the age of 4, first with piano under Douglas Tan and then with voice under Lillian Choo. She left Singapore with an LRSM (piano) and LTCL (voice) to come to the UK for further training in voice. Her final performance in Singapore was at the Cathedral as soprano soloist for the enthronement of the Archbishop of South East Asia.
Since 1992 she has done several recitals for Deal, Canterbury and Maidstone festivals with accompanist Derek Hyde, whilst continuing her vocal training, first with Nigel Wickens and Geraldine Hackett-Jones at Cambridge and then for 7 years with Professor Pamela Bowden FRMCM FRSA, international adjudicator and member of the council of the Royal Philharmonic Society. Recently she has been working with Jonathan Hinden, Principal Coach of Glyndebourne Opera and Professor at the Guildhall School of Music in London. Angeline was made a Fellow of the Trinity College of London in 2000.
Her wide vocal range spanning three full octaves and varied repetoire revelas a versatile performer equally at home with operatic roles like Queen of the Night (Mozart's Die Zauberflote), Lady Leonora (Verdi's II Travetore), Oscar the Page (Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera) or young Sophia (Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier), the intimacy of the recital with Schumann's Fraun Liebe und Leben, Granados Tonidillas, Britten's Caberet Song, Bliss's Seven American Poems and Burleigh's Negro Spirituals or as soloist with choral societies performing Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Nelson Mass and The Creation (Die Schopfung).
She has an extensive involvement in Church music and was not long ago guest soloist performing Mozart's Vespers at Southwalk cathedral at the installation of the Bishop of Southampton. In her student years, she performed with the Cambridge Chamber Choir and Orchestra and continues to enjoy ensemble work with both instrumentalists (Schubert's Shepherd on the Rock, John McCabe's Folk-Song Arrangements and Gustav Holst's Four Songs for Voice and Violin)and singers (Janecek's Die Wolfssour and Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos).
She successfully taught piano and voice for several years (beginners to Grade 8) with 100% pass rate and 85% distinction/merit rate in ABRSM exams.
